Things to Do

Once you've discovered Cairanne with its medieval hilltop village, you can explore nearby Vaison la Romaine (second photo ) It is a bustling and beautiful renaisssance town set around extensive Roman remains. There is a very wide choice of excellent restaurants here. The Mont Ventoux is also nearby for avid cyclists (third photo). Avignon, the former seat of the Popes is a walled city, with a large palace and of course the infamous bridge for dancing! Other nearby destinations include chic Aix-en-Provence, Les Baux de Provence and Le Gorge de l'Ardeche. But practically all our local villages are picturesque and some, like nearby Seguret, classed as particularly worth a visit. A drive through our local mountains, Les Dentelles de Montmirail, is breathtaking and reminiscent of Tuscany, with castles and villages atop the many peaks and summits.

Amongst the many attractions, the ones we return to each year are:-

Avignon - and its Michelin starred restaurant, La Mirande
Aix- en Provence - Mark was a student here.
Les Baux de Provence - The Carrieres de Lumières is an amazing light show in a 'cave'.
Lyon - though it is 2 hours drive away it has the big city feel with the grandeur of Paris as well as great museums and a charming old quarter full of restaurant terraces.
Le Pont du Gard roman aqueduct - combine with an afternoon of shopping in Nîmes.
Plus of course Vaison-la-Romaine - only fifteen mintues drive from the house, it has so much to offer.
